Sorry

Yesterday, 13/02/2008, a sentiment was expressed by the new Australian Parliament that was felt by us, even though we are thousands of kilometres away. We may live in a different country, but Australians we are -through and through.

For our UK friends who would like an explanation, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologised to all indigenous Australians today, in particular the Stolen Generation, for the actions of previous Australian governments and their assimilation policies. A good article that summarises is this.

In his speech, the Prime Minister noted that "reconciliation is in fact an expression of a core value of our nation".  We know that not every Australian thinks similarly but we stand with Kevin —how great is it to have a PM called 'Kev'!!— and are motivated to be reconciled with anyone who we have wronged.
For this is our motivation: As Christian people, we have been reconciled to God in thankful acknowledgement of what Jesus did for us in taking the blame that we deserve for shunning God. This is an amazing reconciliation! Our lives should show appreciation of this and reflect a similar attitude.

How great is the grace shown by this person shown with PM Kevin!

And as a final word, I think the best sentiment was summed up by a comment on the Sydney Morning Herald website that said

"...now that wasn't so bloody hard, was it?"
